@BabyBBB01. I used to think this, too, but then realized it's pure ignorance. The meaning of Miao varies from person to person, but it isn't necessarily derogatory. The word itself refers to seedlings and/or weeds. The Chinese have been trying to exterminate Hmong/Miao for ~4000+ years, and have failed, so wear it like a badge of honor. Hmong is a self-designation, and most Miao also call themselves Hmong. Miao is just a Chinese label, like Indian is to Native Americans.
