A powerful image and urgent call for help as Hmong leader Moua Toua Ter faces deportation to Laos from Thai immigration jail.
Hmong Leader Moua Toua Ter Facing Deportation From Thailand
A decade-old image resurfaces with disturbing urgency. Hmong leader Moua Toua Ter, who was photographed ten years ago, is reportedly being held in the Bangkok Thai Immigration Jail. Sources say he may be deported to Laos on March 25, 2013, where he faces the risk of imprisonment or worse.
The Hmong community has long faced persecution, and deporting Moua Toua Ter without fair hearing or UNHCR involvement could be a violation of international human rights standards.
At the time of this report, there are efforts being made to delay the deportation long enough for him to seek UNHCR protection.
Those who care about justice and human rights are urged to help raise awareness or assist in any way possible. His life could depend on it.
