Rally with grassroots efforts calling for the end of a racial slur and mascot used by Washingtonโ€™s NFL team. Join the movement for cultural respect and change.

Stand With Us: Say No To The Washington Mascot And Slur

On Sunday, November 2, 2014, at 12:00 PM Central Time, activists, students, and Indigenous community members gathered outside TCF Bank Stadium in Minneapolis to protest the use of the Washington NFL teamโ€™s culturally offensive name and mascot. The University of Minnesota, along with many others, took a public stand against the racial slur still used by the team.

This powerful grassroots rally was part of the national #NotYourMascot movement, demanding change and respect for Indigenous peoples. The event featured signs, speeches, and solidarity, drawing attention to how deeply harmful cultural appropriation in sports can be.

Why It Matters

Mascots based on racial stereotypes perpetuate harm. Indigenous people are not mascots, and terms that were once used to dehumanize must be removed from public platforms, especially in major leagues like the NFL.

Join The Movement

You can help by raising awareness, contacting team owners and sponsors, and showing public support through social media using #NotYourMascot.
