An urgent message to all First Nations people regarding an ongoing crisis on the Fort Berthold Reservation. This post details the challenges faced, including political suppression and threats to ancestral lands, and calls for unity and action to protect heritage and secure the future for younger generations.
Urgent Call To First Nations: Protecting Heritage And Rights
To all my brothers and sisters of The First Nations,
We are experiencing a critical moment in Indian Country, a struggle to uphold our people's heritage and ensure the future of our youth. From the past, we've seen attempts to introduce "resolutions," "ordinances," "laws," and "amending Constitutions" designed to consolidate power. This is a direct threat to our sovereignty.
Our younger generations are striving for their rights, pursuing education, and seeking to participate in their communities. Yet, they face systemic barriers, including attempts to disenfranchise voters and manipulate tribal rules. We've witnessed situations where a significant portion of a tribe's own members are effectively denied their right to run for office.
On the Fort Berthold Reservation, the current leadership has prioritized monetary gain and Western philosophies over the well-being of Mother Earth and our people. Fracking, pipelines, and the influx of money have benefited a select few, while many of our own members are left without homes.
Disturbingly, candidates — including young individuals and women — who speak out against these issues are being disqualified under dubious claims of "blood quantum" or residency. Furthermore, archaeologists have been granted approval to excavate and build upon sacred ancestral sites, including graves, Tipi Rings, and areas significant to our Tribal Leaders.
This is a rallying cry to all First Nations. This is a call to the Next Generations.
Rise up! Let us restore our culture and infuse it with renewed vision. We must unite to stop these atrocities on the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation.
I, Lane Vocu, am asking for your help to repair The Three Affiliated Tribes.
- We are organizing a protest to halt the desecration of our ancestors' graves.
- We are appealing the election board's decision to disqualify candidates.
- We are also planning a seminar on Renewable Energy Development.
